値 | Previous research about the mechanism of repetition priming have shown that the behavioral facilitation resulting from multiple repetitions reflects a form of a more efficient response mechanism that bypasses processes engaged during the initial processing of items (decision learning). Utilizing an object priming paradigm in which participants were asked to make relative size judgments about visually presented common objects, Schnyer et al. (2007) indicated that decision learning did not transfer across different visual exemplars of a studied item. Based on previous research, the present study examined whether priming transfer to different visual exemplars would occur when participants studied repeated items with visually diverse exemplars, and its aging effects. The results showed the effect of exemplar diversity on stimulus specificity of repetition priming. Particularly, the elderly group showed much more repetition priming and priming transfer to different visual exemplars when items were repeated with visually diverse exemplars than when same exemplars were repeated, suggesting abstract (or conceptual) decision learning independent of perceptual characteristics of stimulus. | |||||
