| 内容記述 | The objective of this study was to verify the effect of longterm hypodynamic state by tail-suspension on hindlimb bone remodeling in the rat. Male wister rats, 7 weeks of age, were used. The hindlimbs of each rat were unloaded by suspending hindquarter of the body which was performed by lifting up the proximal portion of the tail with a wire. The wire was fixed by passing through the inter-coccygeal space. The other end of the wire was connected through a rotating ring to another wire stretched horizontally on the ceiling of habitat, so that the rat could move freely on the floor with only the forelimbs. The suspension was continued for 7 weeks. In order to analyze bone density, X-ray photographs were taken at the end of the 5th week. At the end of the 7th week, the animals were sacrificed for weighing several organs, including ash weights of femur bone. The results obtained were as followings : (1) the animals failed to gain weight during the first week of suspension, but thereafter recovered to gain normal weight, and (2) after 5 weeks of suspension, the bone density became significantly less than that of the control, and the reduction of ash weight obtained at the end of the experiment supported this demineralization. These results indicated that the disused bone atrophy clearly occurred in the femur. It was also noticed that no enlargement was found in the adrenal tissue. Together with normal body-weight gain, this finding suggested that the tail suspension method used in this experiment is a suitable method for simulating disused hypodynamic conditions. | |||||
