内容記述 When 'Shogakko Kyosoku Taiko' (the Outline of Instruction for Primary Schools) was enacted in October 1891, 'Yugi' (Play and Games) were adopted as the teaching materials of physical education for primary schools. "Yugi-ho" (The Teaching Method of Play and Games) was published in 1894. This book was composed of the reports of many attached schools to the prefectural normal schools which answered the the questions what and how play and games had been practiced in their schools. Teacher's manuals of 'Yugi' had increasingly published year after year in those days and this indicated the situation of the development of 'Yugi' in primary schools. The purpose of the present study is to analyse the contents of "Yugi-ho" and to clarify the situation of the development of play and games in the twenties of Meiji. The results of this study may be summarized as follows : 1. The practice of 'koshin-ho' (Marching) had been as yet not quite satisfactory, but 'shoka-yugi' (singing play) had been adopted in many schools and 'kyoso-yugi' (competitive play and games) had been practiced in much more schools. 2. 'Shoka-yugi' were trying to be practiced by means of the play newly created in the schools as well as the one generally adopted. 3. 'Kyoso-yugi' were widely and in various ways practiced, and also the original competitive play and games were often experimented. It corroborates this that the manuals published in this period included plenty of examples of the competitive play and games. 4. Thus the rise of play and games in the primary school physical education was obviously seen in the twenties of Meiji
